Free Consultation and Initial Assessment
Considering a renovation of your home or property and not sure where to start? Want an Architect's initial assessment on a kitchen or a bathroom that feels awkward? Have general questions about anything related to renovation and construction? Contact me!
I'm happy to get you pointed in the right direction regardless of whether or not we end up working together; I can talk on the phone, meet in person, or visit your space in the New York metro area and discuss your questions on site, all free of charge.
Full-Service Architectural Design & Construction Administration
The primary service I offer. I work with you to develop your scope of work and design intent, develop your design into comprehensive drawings for permitting and construction, work with you to select your contractor, and then work hand-in-hand with your contractor during construction to ensure that your design intent is fully realized to all appropriate standards of quality.
For a breakdown of my fee structure as well as a walkthrough of the phases of design and construction with architectural service deliverables, see: Fee Structure and The Design Process.
Targeted Design Consultation
If you're in a pre-planning stage, or otherwise have a specific and limited design question that doesn't require full-service design (such as confirming feasibility of general scopes of work or better understanding the general possibilities your space might support), I can sometimes offer a targeted design consultation for a low fixed fee.
Architectural Evaluation of Real Estate
Are you in the process of looking at property, or considering a specific property for purchase? Real estate pricing often relies on simple quantifiable metrics (such as the number of bedrooms & bathrooms), but there are deeper qualitative characteristics that can lead to a vastly improved quality of life and sometimes require a careful eye to discern (see "Design" in Why Hire an Architect?).
I offer design-focused evaluations of property for buyers: helping assess renovation potential, natural light, space planning opportunities, and overall design strengths and weaknesses.
If you have floor plans and good photos of a specific space readily available, I can sometimes perform a quick assessment free of charge; where more extensive consultation is helpful I can visit and evaluate a potential property in person for a small fixed fee.
Experience
I've been working in architecture since 2008, primarily in the New York City area.
Prior to launching my solo practice, I worked on many large scale public & institutional projects that required a high degree of formality and comprehensive drawing & detailing, and I firmly believe in applying that same high standard to smaller scale projects.
Education
I have a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master in Architecture II from the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
Credentials
I am a Licensed Architect in the state of New York, and I am certified with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), through which I can obtain reciprocal licensure in other states.
Rigorous Drawing and Documentation
I believe strongly in producing comprehensive, detailed, and thoroughly coordinated drawings and documentation for design and construction.
While this level of rigor and formality is less common in residential and small-scale work, I think it brings significant benefits: design ideas are more fully developed and details are worked out with greater care before construction begins, contractors have much more clarity to bid and build the project with confidence, and the drawing set itself supports a more efficient process of design and construction to result in a better final outcome for your design.
An Efficient, 3D-Based Workflow
To develop more comprehensive drawing sets without sacrificing production efficiency or pace, I use an exclusively 3D-based workflow.
This approach requires more time investment at the start of a project to carefully survey existing conditions and build a detailed digital model, but it creates significant time savings at every subsequent stage when compared to traditional 2D CAD systems.
New drawings and views are quickly generated directly from the model rather than drawn from scratch, and design changes large and small automatically propagate throughout the drawing set without requiring manual coordination across separate drawings. Working in three dimensions also reveals spatial conflicts and design opportunities that could be missed in traditional 2D views, resulting in a more thoroughly resolved project.
High Quality Design at Competitive and Accessible Fees
By combining an efficient 3D workflow with the lean overhead of a solo practice, I aim to offer high quality design and thorough, detailed documentation while keeping my own costs low and therefore offering competitive professional fees.
Additionally, as a solo practitioner, I take hands-on responsibility for every step of the entire design and construction process, work with you directly, and bring the full weight of my years of experience to every aspect of your project in order to provide you with consistent and thoughtful design decision-making and execution from start to finish.
